Choosing the Right Processes to Automate First

Aerial view of a river curving around a circular orange and white mineral formation with small green pools within it, surrounded by barren land.

Not every process is a good candidate for automation. The best first projects are high-volume, repetitive, rule-based, and stable, meaning they don't change dramatically from one month to the next.

A simple way to prioritise is to plot candidate processes on two axes: how much value automating them would create, and how complex they would be to implement. Start with the high-value, low-complexity options.

Early wins build confidence and internal expertise, making it easier to tackle more ambitious, higher-complexity processes later on.
